A historically accurate interpretation of a legendary 1970s modular synth, the Behringer System 55 is teeming with vintage vibe. With 38 discrete all-analog modules, this power-packed Eurorack system has everything you need to craft authentic old-school synth tones. It features a staggering collection of oscillators, filters, amplifiers, and noise sources — plus all the necessary utilities and a step sequencer. On top of that, it’s housed in two Behringer Eurorack Cases ganged together with a set of Eurorack Go brackets, and it includes enough built-in power to supply the whole system with some juice to spare! With the Behringer System 55, it’s now possible for vintage modular synth lovers to live out their wildest electronic dreams, with the additional perk of integrating these iconic tones with modern Eurorack devices!

1 x 914 Fixed Filter Bank

The 914 fixed filter bank gives you unprecedented control over the timbre and resonance of your synthesized sound creations. The Behringer 914 is loaded with 12 active bandpass filters — ranging from 125Hz to 5.6kHz — and 24dB/octave highpass and lowpass filters. Not simply an EQ, the Behringer 914 has a characteristic sound that adds harmonic richness to any signal.

1 x 923 Analog Dual Filter

The 923 analog dual VCF delivers lush filtering with just enough grit to add massive character to your Eurorack-system oscillators and other audio signals. The 923 comprises a separate highpass and lowpass filter with independent I/O, along with a pink noise generator and white noise generator. Route two discrete signals into each filter to build dense, complex synth tones, or chain the two filters in series for bandpass-like effects and unique soundscaping.

1 x 904B Voltage-controlled Highpass Filter

A point-to-point reproduction sized for Eurorack, the 904B Voltage-controlled highpass filter delivers the smooth frequency sweeping, gritty character, and squelching high end that made its predecessor highly coveted by vintage synth collectors. The module consists of two controls: filter control voltage and frequency range. Bearing its historically accurate name, the filter control voltage knob sets the filter’s cutoff point, and the 2-position Frequency Range selector lets you choose between a low (4Hz to 20kHz) band and a high (10Hz to 50kHz) band. Not only does the 904B remove low frequencies, but it also accentuates the high frequencies for ear-blistering leads that slice through a mix. And when paired with the Behringer 904B voltage-controlled lowpass filter, it can create brain-bending bandpass effects. The 904B is equipped with signal inputs and outputs and three summed control voltage inputs for blending modulators that affect the filter’s cutoff point.

1 x 904A Voltage-controlled Lowpass Filter

The Behringer 904A VCF is a self-oscillating resonant lowpass filter brimming with a thick and gritty vintage character. The 904A’s two primary controls — fixed control voltage and regeneration — carry the names found on the original unit, but, in modern parlance, they translate to filter cutoff and resonance, respectively. And they behave exactly as you would expect, with the unmistakable sound that has cemented its place in synthesis history. A frequency range knob lets you select from three frequency cutoff bands: position one spans from 1Hz to 5kHz, position 2 is 4Hz to 20kHz, and position 3 is 16Hz to 80kHz — giving you have ample control over your filter sweeps. The 904A is equipped with a signal input and output. It also includes three CV control inputs for manipulating the fixed control voltage, which are summed for creating dynamic movements from multiple LFOs or other modulation sources.

1 x 992 Control Voltages

It may look humble, but Eurorack experts will tell you that the 992 is much more than a utilitarian module. At its most basic, it’s a CV router with three control inputs and three frequency control to lowpass filter outputs, selectable with front-panel switches. The control input signals are summed, and that’s where things get interesting. By combining CVs, you can start crafting incredibly complex waveshapes, from musical undulations to unpredictable modulated chaos. And by routing the summed signals to multiple filters or other CV-controllable modules, the 992 gives you the power to develop synth tones with stunning depth and dimension. As a cherry on top, the 992 includes an attenuverter for scaling or inverting an external CV signal. Turning the knob clockwise adjusts the CV level from 0 to 10 (unity gain); turning counterclockwise adjusts the CV level from 0 to -10 (also unity gain).

5 x 902 Voltage Controlled Amplifier

The 902 VCA module is the System 55’s workhorse voltage-controlled amplifier, with two signal inputs and two signal outputs for controlling audio signals or control voltages. Use it to generate brain-bending amplitude modulation, silky-smooth tremolo effects, and more.

4 x 911 Envelope Generator

The 911 envelope generator is a powerful sound-sculpting tool. Laid out in a standard ADSR configuration, the 911 envelope generator provides wide-ranging time intervals from 2ms up to 10 seconds, for tight snares and bursts, snappy pitched percussion sounds, epic stabs, and long, liquid drones. When building a Eurorack synthesizer, having an excellent envelope generator is essential — and, with the Behringer System 55, you get four!

1 x 911A Dual Trigger Delay

The 911A dual trigger delay has a delay time range of 2ms to 10s, and it transforms your ADSR envelope generator into a DADSR envelope generator. Add subtle depth, slap-like delay, or haunting long delay that follows your signal like a shadow. Unlike most delays, the 911A doesn’t spit out a carbon copy. Instead, it expands from zero to peak volume before moving through the ADSR, producing an evocative volume swell. The 911A has three signal-routing options accessible through its coupling mode control knob. The delays can run independently, with their own delay time settings; in parallel mode to link the delay times; or in series, with one delay feeding into the next to create a moving modulated delay.

2 x 921A Oscillator Driver

The Behringer 921A oscillator driver works in conjunction with the Behringer 921B oscillator module. Using the 921A oscillator driver, you can alter the frequency of the 921B oscillator module according to semitones or octaves, selectable with a rocker switch. Additionally, the 921A outputs an adjustable rectangular waveform for pulse width modulation. The 921A is CV-controllable with two summed inputs each for frequency and pulse width, for wild moving modulations. And unlike the original 1970s unit, the 921A isn’t constrained to affecting one oscillator unit; Behringer has designed it to drive up to 12 parallel oscillators.

6 x 921B Voltage-controlled Oscillator

The Behringer 921B oscillator is filled with vintage bite and growl. This straightforward all-analog VCO simultaneously outputs sine, triangle, sawtooth, and square waveshapes, and it includes two CV inputs for pulse width modulation and AC-Coupled and DC-Coupled inputs for frequency modulation. Sync In with selectable weak and strong modes lets you slave the 921B to another oscillator for deep waveshape manipulation.

1 x 921 Voltage-controlled Oscillator

The Behringer 921 VCO generates massive, gritty tones with its six selectable waveforms that include sine, triangle, saw, inverted saw, square, and inverted square. Or you can switch it into sub-audio mode for use as an LFO. The 921’s frequency control lets you select between stepped octaves or semitones, allowing you to create pseudo-polyphony when paired with one or more additional oscillators. For ultra-thick sounds, the 921 features pulse width modulation with two separate CV inputs, and you can add a heaping helping of dirt by adjusting the module’s clamping point, a type of old-school clipper.

1 x 960 Sequential Controller

The Behringer 960 comprises three 8-step sequencer pattern rows, with manual CV adjustment and separate gate in and out per step, and a ninth step with a stop command for halting the sequence. Every step is equipped with a manual trigger button, making it easy to audition sounds when building sequences. The Behringer 960 provides two outputs per channel and a voltage range selector for each, with options for +2V, +4V, and +8V maximum output. For brewing up vintage-inspired synthwave arpeggios, firing off gritty analog drum samples, or generating complex modulations, it doesn’t get better than the Behringer 960. And the module is also equipped with a built-in pulse oscillator, with a frequency range selector and fine-tuning knob (bearing the historically accurate name “Frequency Vernier”).

3 x C3PA-O Oscillator Controller

The 992 control voltages module and the C3PA-O oscillator controller module are functionally similar, with the difference being an attenuator on the Behringer C3PA-O and an attenuverter on the Behringer 992.

3 x CP3A-M Mixer

The CP3A-M mixer’s straightforward controls offer extensive flexibility for building complex patches and creating never-before-heard sounds. The CP3A-M contains four channel inputs with channel gain knobs, a master gain knob, two sets of outputs with negative and positive polarity, and two sets of multiples with four outputs each. All of this adds up to vast routing options that will blow open your System 55’s creative potential.

2 x 995 Attenuators

The 995 lets you passively control the level of both audio and CV signals up to unity gain. The compact 8HP module contains three attenuators, which can be used in series to attenuate a single signal that can be sent to three different modules in your Eurorack system. Or you can use it in parallel to attenuate and then output up to three independent input signals.

1 x 903A Random Signal Generator

The 903A random signal generator pumps out vintage-sounding white and pink noise. With two outputs per voice, the Behringer 903A is formidable as both an audio source for producing percussive and atmospheric sounds and as a modulation source for randomizing sample & hold, sequences, and more.

1 x CP35 Attenuators

The Behringer CP35 attenuators module massively expands the creative possibilities of your Eurorack system. This 26HP unit comprises four passive attenuators, eight multiples, and +6V/-6V reference voltage outputs. The attenuators have an attenuation range of infinity to unity gain, and they are normalized from left to right. So, you can use them as an additional bank of four multiples or break the chain by patching into input jacks two, three, or four. Multiples are split into two banks, each with one input and three outputs. The Behringer CP35 is able to pass audio and CV signals, allowing considerable flexibility for creating complex patches within your Eurorack system.

1 x 961 Interface

The 961 interface is a utility device that converts the vintage V-trigs to S-trigs for compatibility with other Behringer System 55 devices and third-party Eurorack modules. The 961 has 24 V-trig inputs split into two banks of two columns, marked A and B. It offers flexible control over input signal gain and the ability to manually set the length of time for a trigger’s “On” duration on column B inputs. With the 961 installed in your Eurorack, you get to enjoy the historically accurate character of the System 55, with easy integration with other Eurorack modules.

1 x 962 Sequential Switch

The 962’s unique routing and switching capabilities empower you to transform an 8-step sequencer into a 16- to 24-step sequencer with other steps in between. The operation is simple. Run up to three signals into the 962’s three inputs, and output them to an oscillator, filter, or more. With a little patchwork, the 962 will switch between the input signals in sequence. For the Behringer 960 sequencer, that means switching between the unit’s three available patterns. However, the 962 doesn’t stop there: it is able to switch between other Eurorack units that output audio signals and CV. With some imagination, you can cook up mind-twisting patches that will send your listeners on a wild sonic excursion!

1 x CM1A MIDI to CV Converter

The CM1A is a high-quality 16-bit MIDI to CV converter that lets you control your System 55 with any MIDI keyboard, hardware sequencer, or your DAW. It includes traditional 5-pin din MIDI In and Thru ports and a USB-MIDI port. Plus, it allows you to switch between V-trig, S-trig, or use both simultaneously!
